Device Repairs
With the increase of devices (e.g. Chromebooks, laptops) in the FCPS inventory for students and staff, the volume of lost devices and repairs has also increased. FCPS continues to evolve its device repair program to minimize cost recovery from students and staff. Basic technical maintenance and repair of computing devices is a challenge for many schools.
About
Device Repairs
FCPS provides students access to technology to create high impact learning opportunities, allow implementation of educational programs that integrate and support diverse teaching and learning strategies, and stimulate personal growth. Technology use will be routine, transparent, and encourage innovative teaching methods to ensure students’ success. Students are provided access to computers, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads, and hotspots.
Students are responsible for the general care of FCPS devices which they use. Any device that needs repair or fails to work properly must be reported to the technology support staff at the school. The division does not cover the costs of device repair or replacement needed due to accidental damage, misuse, abuse, neglect, loss or theft.
Accidental breakage or damage will be repaired and billed according to the schedule below. According to the FCPS Student Handbook (Loss or Damage to School Board Property, page 35), “Principals will collect fines from the responsible party for the loss or damage of school board property”. Intentional and/or negligent damage by the student is not covered by this plan and is subject to the full cost of repair or replacement.

This graduated scale plan goes into effect Monday September 20, 2021.
Students participating in the FCPS 1:1 Chromebook initiative have the option to purchase insurance. The $24.95 policy (renewed yearly) covers accidental damage, theft, or peril. It does not cover a lost power adapter.
Chromebook Insurance (Optional)
FCPS offers a protection plan (insurance) to families with the intent to lower the cost of repairs if/when accidental damage occurs to the Chromebook. The protection plan will cost $24.95 and will cover the device for one year. The Chromebook comes with a manufacturer warranty, but that does not cover accidental damage, theft, or peril. Typical incidents covered include
The policy must be purchased within 30 days of the Chromebook being issued to the student. After 30 days, FCPS Tech Services will need to verify the Chromebook’s condition.
